in the spirit and style of e.e.cummings

i shall imagine life
is not worth dying,if
(and when)roses complain
their beauties are in vain

but though mankind persuades
itself that every weed’s
a rose,roses(you feel
certain)will only smile
-e.e. cumings

this was one of my favorite e.e cummings poems when i was in high school. i had a number of them, but i remember this one (specifically

i love his punctuation-and his imagery

what brought up this sudden rememberence of my love for eecummings? my sister (teaching english in thailand currently shared a line that one of her students wrote:

“This age is want to know want to try Fiona too she wants to know what does it have the outside of Rainbow land.”

she shared it in the spirit of bemusement. on one hand proud of her students creativity and on the other hand trying to untangle the mess of grammar her student had written – where she saw a grammar tangle though i saw sheer brilliance; consider this e.e.cummings style adaption

This age is want to know; want to try
Fiona too she wants to know–
what does it have
(the outside of Rainbow land

yup; this is definitely my kinda student

also – i think it is worth mentioning that although the rest of her grammar may be a mess she used to and too correctly. i know college grads that can’t manage that much!
